*NEW* NYS Seal of Biliteracy Program

October 6, 2016

Dear Parents:

I am delighted to inform you about a new program which Fishers Island School has just rolled out, called the New York State Seal of Biliteracy Program (NYSSB Program).

All students who complete 12th-grade Spanish (two ECE Spanish courses) have the opportunity to earn a seal of biliteracy (at no cost to the student) which will appear on their diploma as well as on their high school transcript. This prestigious addition to one’s credentials was established by the NYS Legislature and is issued by the New York State Department of Education in recognition of high school graduates who have attained an “intermediate high” level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and in at least one other language (in our school’s case, Spanish).

For more information on this program, please refer to the
Program Description, or visit the NYSSB website at http://www.nysed.gov/bilingual-ed/schools/new-york-state-seal-biliteracy-nyssb.

Students wishing to participate in this program must apply no later than at the beginning of their senior year. If your child wishes to participate in this program,
click here for the letter of intent and submit to me no later than October 17, 2016.

Please do not hesitate to contact be by email ([email protected]) if you have any questions about the program.

Sincerely,

Christine Anifantakis
